Pearl Diving

Pearl diving is one of the oldest traditions in the UAE. Major Ali Al Suweidi's family has taken part in it for as long as he can remember. At the age of 5, Major Ali had already fallen in love with the tradition, along with everything related to the ocean. Today, Major Ali continues to dive on a regular basis, teaches pearl diving to the youth, and educates the people of the UAE about the importance of culture and tradition.

At Emirates Marine Environmental Group it is important to promote and teach local members of the community and visitors to Jebel Ali Marine Reserve about the traditional and cultural heritage of the United Arab Emirates. EMEG is responsible for:

  1. Teaching school groups and local children cultural heritage of the United Arab Emirates

  2. Providing pearl diving demonstrations for school groups and visitors to the reserve

  3. Organization of pearl diving and ecotourism activities

  4. Hosting the National History Group Abu Dhabi, Dubai and Al Ain to teach history

and culture of pearl diving in the United Arab Emirates
